I want to share with you a question that I get fairly often when I’m talking with an advisor for the first time. They’ll say,

“Rob, how do I get unstuck? My business is pretty good, but I feel like I’m on a plateau, like I’m not getting anywhere. And frankly, things are getting a bit boring. I’m doing the same things over and over again.”

Well, the first answer is: what’s your vision for the future? Where do you seriously want to go?

You have to be able to answer that question.

Do you have a vision for the future?

The second thing that you need to able to answer is: who is an ideal client for your business?

Because, frankly, the best way to get unstuck is to work with more of the people that you enjoy the most, who enjoy working with you, who really make what you do every day more enjoyable.

So, when you know what your vision is, you know who you like to work with, it’s easier to set meaningful goals and targets, which is the third step. What is that next level of success?

Challenge yourself to move forward.

Don’t just say, “Well, you know, I’d like to grow my business ten or fifteen percent a year.”

When people say that, they say it really quiet just like that, because they’re embarrassed.

They’re embarrassed because they really don’t know how far they can or want to go.

But why not say,

“Hey, I love what I do. I love the clients that I work with. I have a great vision for the future and, to really get there, I want to grow by 25, 30, 50 percent this year.”

And when you put those three things together, you can make it happen because there’s a simple plan.

There’s a glide path that you can work yourself through that will attach your vision to what you expect and are looking for from the type of client that you want to work with to that ultimate goal.

So, think about it.

If you are stuck, do you have a vision for the future?

Do you know who you really like to work with?

And what’s that glide path?

Where do you really want to get to that will make you say, “Hey, I am unstuck. I’ve had a big level of success and I’m excited about what I do.”

Don’t be afraid to challenge yourself.

This business is too hard to settle for anything less.
